Range extenders, also known as repeaters, can take a signal from a wireless router when it won’t reach certain devices on your network and extend the effective range of your network. Generally we would like to use no extenders on a home. Instead we would prefer to get the router centrally located and in a high vantage point for better performance. Extenders have to do a double handshake for every process which is less desirable. They are placed close enough to the router that it can receive a good signal from it.
