Sound Bar, Soundbar, Speakerbar or Speaker Bar all refer to a speaker generally located below the TV which in a simple form delivers a full bodied stereo sound from a basic 2 channel self amplified bar to a multichannel (up to 5.1) sound all coming from a single bar and often tied into a wireless subwoofer which comes in a package.
Another type of Sound bar is the passive unit which gets its power from a surround sound receiver and the 3 main Channels of sound (left,right and center) all come from this single unit. In this case you generally will have a separate subwoofer and surround speakers located appropriately in the room.
